Nov 25, 2016 - ExaGear Strategies / RPGAre emulators of the Windows environment. Solving the problem with mapping companies in the Age of Empires 2.
Age of Empires 2 LINKS BREAK BECAUSE OF IMGUR FORMATTING, DELETE ALL BLANK SPACES IN URLS AND COPY+PASTE THEM You need the original game files to play this. Grab your game folder and put it in the ExaGear folder in your SD card. However, a few extra steps are needed to play the game. First off, download the DirectX 8. 1b setup from here:. 1b-for-Windows-98,-ME,-2K,-and-XP If DirectX is not installed, the game will start normally, but the entire map will be blank, making the game unplayable.
This happens both on random maps and in scenarios such as campaigns. Then, put it inside the Age of Empires 2 folder and open ExaGear Strategies. After the install is done, a dialog box will tell you to unzip the setup. By default, the chosen folder will be 'Temp'.

Change the directory to any other folder using the built-in file explorer. Once you have selected the folder, unzip it and wait until it is done, then close the dialog box. A popup will confirm that DirectX 8 has been installed. You can now close the app.
(The setup.exe can be deleted) After that, you will need to download a dsound. Dll fix from here:. 0.4/ This fix prevents the game from crashing a few seconds after starting a game.
You have to download both files and place them in your game folder. Simple as that! Once you have done everything, set the game to run at 800x600 and 15bpp colors to maximize performance. The locale should be set to ruRU.
UTF-8 to remove the custom font, which makes reading text much easier. You can use any control scheme you want, but I prefer Cuprum. REMEMBER, this is a pretty demanding game. Something with the same power as a Nexus 5 (or more) should run it without mayor problems. If you do have a high-end device, you might be able to run the game at higher resolutions.
This makes the UI smaller, though. Command & Conquer: Red Alert This one runs faster and is easier to set up. First off, since Red Alert is freeware, download the PortableRA package from here (13MB!): / And place the Red Alert folder in your ExaGear one. It's as simple as that! Afterwards, change the settings in the app to the following: Resolution: 640x480 Color Depth: 15bpp Locale: (Any) Controls: Cuprum is recommended. You MIGHT have to fiddle around with the config file, changing resolutions and other stuff, but it's a lot easier to prepare than AoE2.

Opening the game goes straight to the menu skipping the intro, and starting a new game causes it to crash everytime.
I thought this was a problem just with this game. But then I tried Age of Empires and got the EXACT SAME problem. Opening it sends me straight to the menu, skipping the intros. And there is no music. And once I press new game it starts for a couple of seconds but then crashes.
So this problem isn't game related, it's a problem with Exagear or the phone is too modern. I have seen people running AoE on very old phones with the Snapdragon 800. I have the Razer phone with Snapdragon 835. Is anyone here capable of running AoE on modern chipsets? You can try it right now without paying as Exagear has a free 3-day trial period. Yeah, that's the solution that I've found has worked for me for a few games.
I only play Diablo 2 on it, which is working great. I tried getting another game working recently and ran into similar issues where it would start and crash or not start at all depending on the various versions I tried.
But yeah, Exagear is a very niche app, so not a lot of people use it. The fact that the control layouts are absurdly priced is another strike against it. But sadly it's the only option for this sort of early-Windows games unless you want to do a wonky thing like run Win9X in Dosbox. Which I would rather not do!:).
